Westminster Public Schools (WPS) are back in session, bringing a familiar mix of jitters, bittersweet drop-offs, and buzzing excitement to the halls of the schools.

For families, the day is an emotional milestone. "It's nice to have them go back to school, and it's kind of sad to see them go up a level as the kids are growing," Richard Moreno reflected after dropping off his level one student at Orchard Park Academy (OPA).

The students aren't the only ones with nerves. Even veteran educators feel the traditional first-day flutter. "I've still got butterflies in my tummy right now," OPA teacher Melisa “Coach” Garcia shared. However, OPA Science Teacher Stuart “Van” Vanderhurst noted that the profession is uniquely rewarding because "every year you start brand new."

Staff are ready to dive "ten toes in" to new academic programs like drone technologies and an updated literacy curriculum. Yet, the overarching mission remains deeply rooted in the community. "Our theme this year is connection and hope," explained OPA Interim Principal Melinda Frates.

Beyond academics, the ultimate goal for the year is simple as Mesa Elementary Principal, Douglas Kurzawski, summarized, "Grow in math, grow in science, and just be better humans."
